The Lion Marks Podcast: Do You Know Yano?

On this episode, we explore the most complex of athletes, Yano Toru.

Things Yano says in the ring
* “Shine, bakayaro” = Die, bastard!
* (While pointing to his head) “Koko ga chigau n dayo” = My brain is better than yours!
* ”Kocchi da, Bakayarou“ = I am over here, bastard!
* (After Okada tries to stop Yano from removing the corner pad) “Jyama suruna, Okada“ = Don’t bother me, Okada!
* “Kazoku no minna” = My family (fans)

It’s great how you guys are working to bring some of the external and cultural context of New Japan to western fans, beyond on-the-air translations. I had no idea Yano’s pose was A Thing in Japan.

And just as another point of data on the topic: As a native English speaker, I’ve always clearly heard the chants-“YAno-TO-RU” and “TAna-HA-SHI”

Thanks. I think I hear the chants better now, than before.
